It’s time to repost the rules. Things aren’t bad, but I like to remind myself—and you—how we do things.

Welcome to Bluebird Banter! Our little space on the web where we chat, argue, complain, and praise the Toronto Blue Jays.

Most rules boil down to one idea: treat this blog as our living room. Respect it—and the last beer is mine.

  • Rule one: No suggestions of violence, self-harm, or ill will against any player or group, even as a joke. Zero tolerance. Break this, expect a ban.
  • Debate ideas, but don’t attack other posters. Avoid personal insults.
  • Do not argue with moderators. If asked to stop, stop. Email complaints directly to me.
  • No derogatory comments about race, nationality, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. Slurs are prohibited.
  • Don’t be sexist. Sports blogs tend to be men’s clubs, but we have female members. My wife may also look in; you’ll lose if you get on the wrong side of her.
  • No profanity allowed.
  • Using * or symbols to imply profanity is also not allowed.
  • However, using “Clemensing” or “Farrelling” as a substitution is still fair game.
  • You can criticize Jays’ players, but keep it civil and balanced. Repeated complaints won’t be welcome.
  • Telling us our player is about to strike out doesn’t go over well. We like our team, Barry.
  • Do not try to annoy people or start fights.
  • Also, as a request, it would be nice to be friendlier to new folks. We were all new at one time. With that said, expect people to challenge your opinions. Roll with it. Defend your position. Intelligent people can disagree. There are times when I’ll question someone because I don’t think they’ve quite made their argument, and I’d like them to expand on it.
  • Conversely, some of us have been friends for a while, and some ribbing occurs. Please take it in stride. Generally, it means we like you.
  • No religion or politics. Focus on baseball.
  • We aren’t grammar police.
  • Don’t copy and paste an article from another site. If you see something worth sharing, post a link. That drives traffic to the other site.
  • Discussion of illegal streams is not permitted.
  • We’re all equal fans. Prove your intelligence with your comments, don’t tell us. If you are the smartest, we’ll figure it out.

Use the report button under comments to flag rule-breaking. Mods will review flagged content.

We have something new at SB: automated moderation. If you use a word or phrase that is against the rules, it might get deleted without the mods knowing about it. It isn’t perfect. Occasionally, it misreads something, but it works well most of the time.

What happens if you break a rule?

If moderators ask you to stop, please do so. Violations may result in deleted comments. There are few things worse than debating rules in a thread.

You might get a warning for breaking rules—think of it as a yellow card, not personal.

Bans are like red cards: you can read but not post. We rarely ban, except for serious or repeated issues.

If banned and you believe it is unfair, email for reconsideration.

We don’t discuss warnings with others.

With all this said, we hope you come by often and join in the discussions.

Lastly, Go, Jays, Go!
