It is not just Bayern Munich’s men’s team who will be flying to the far East during the summer break. The women will be following suit.

The Bayern Frauen, who are coming off their most successful season yet, have announced that they will be traveling to Japan, homeland of starlet Momoko Tanikawa, for the Allianz Women’s Tour. Their main stop will be Tokyo, where they will stay from the 21st to the 27th of July. This will be the Frauen’s third international tour, after their visits to the United States and Mexico in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

During the week-long stay, Bayern will play a friendly match against local first division club RB Omiya Ardija. As one may note from the name of the club, Omiya recently became another name on the Red Bull list. It could be said that the club is a sister club of the Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig, and the Austrian Bundesliga’s Red Bull Salzburg. Omiya finished in 7th out of 12 clubs in the 2025/26 WE League season.

The friendly will be played on Saturday the 25th in Saitama, one of Tokyo’s many satellite cities (and home to Japan’s biggest railway museum – author’s note). Exact details, such as kickoff times, are yet to be announced.

There is a possibility that this writer will be able to attend the match in person. Should the occasion arise, he will provide a live report of the game, and perhaps some further chance encounters with the team.
