Bayern Munich could move for Barcelona star under one condition

Bayern Munich remain interested in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.

The right-back has been a key player for Didier Deschamps’s France side at the 2026 World Cup and has featured in every game so far.

Kounde has been particularly impressive in France’s last three matches, helping his side keep clean sheets against Sweden, Paraguay and Morocco.

Bayern Munich interested in Jules Kounde?

After three outstanding seasons at Sevilla, Kounde secured a move to Barcelona in the summer of 2022.

Despite initially facing registration issues, the Frenchman quickly established himself and has gone on to make 188 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring 10 goals.

Christian Falk has told CFBayern Insider that Kounde has been on Bayern’s shortlist for several years.

The German champions admire his profile, but they are unable to make a move at the moment unless they first offload a few players.

For example, Sacha Boey remains part of the squad, although he spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, who have the option to sign him permanently.

Falk said: “It is TRUE: Jules Koundé has been on Bayern Munich’s list for years. They like the player and have followed his progress, but there is no option at the moment to buy him right now, as they have to sell players. As I’ve mentioned previously, Sacha Boey is still on the list.

“They have too many players available in this position; Konrad Laimer can play it, as can Josip Stanišić. So, if FC Bayern can sell Boey, perhaps they can make a move for Koundé. But, at the moment, there is no opportunity to do so. Givairo Read is obviously another name the club has looked at for the right-back position. But if they can’t sell anyone here, it’s getting difficult.

Bayern looking to offload before signing again

The German champions have already signed Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, but any further additions will depend on player sales.

The likes of Boey, Hiroki Ito, Kim Min-jae and Joao Palhinha could all leave this summer if Bayern receive suitable offers.

Kounde would be an excellent signing for Bayern, but as things stand, they are unlikely to make a move unless Boey departs.

Bayern are also interested in signing Givairo Read, who is being targeted by Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.
