BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – The Shady Spring Tigers are once again the Burger King Division champions of the Battle for the Armory.

Oak Hill and James Monroe’s boys’ teams both left the tournament with statement wins as well.

The Oak Hill Red Devils kicked off the final day of games, taking on Princeton in the losers’ bracket of the Pepsi Division. Oak Hill came into the game winless, losing a heartbreaker to Charleston Catholic just the day before.

Oak Hill certainly dictated the flow of play, leading for much of the entire game. The Red Devils notched out a 69-59 victory over the Tigers.

Oak Hill boasted 4 different players who scored double digit points. Brent Conley led the charge with 22 points, 4 blocks, and 3 rebounds.

“We do not play the individual game. We do not play hero ball. We really are an offensive identity – sharing the ball and finding the open guy. Making sure we are making the one extra pass always. We do not care who it is because we always have guys who are capable of putting the basketball in the hoop,” said head coach Andy Kees.

Princeton’s Chance Barker collected a double-double – 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals on the day. Jayce Gumm added 18 points and 6 boards to the mix.

That win gave Oak Hill their first victory on the season.

James Monroe then faced off against Woodrow Wilson in an absolute barn burner.

The two were neck and neck throughout the first quarter, but then James Monroe lit up the Flying Eagles in the second quarter to walk into the locker room at halftime up 44-35. Woodrow slowly but surely came back in the second half, finally retaking the lead in the 4th quarter. After that moment, the two teams traded points, until the Mavericks pulled out the win 81-79.

“That Is the kind of tempo we want to play. We are trying to create a little bit of chaos and in all honesty, it creates chaos for us ourselves sometimes. But we played through it. Great win. I mean, Woodrow, you have all the respect of the world for that team. That is a great win,” said Mavericks Head Coach Kelly Mann

Ryan Mann got a double-double himself, racking up 17 points and 10 assists. 4 other Mavericks also got double-digit points, making this a complete team victory.

On the other end, Gage Burdette got 25 points plus 4 rebounds, Preston Clary collected 15 points, and AJ Thomas added 13.

In the Burger King Division Championship game, Shady Spring – the reigning champions – took on undefeated Wyoming East. The Warriors began the game hot, but Shady set their foot down defensively as the game went on. The Tigers ended up winning a nail-biter 52-51.
