ARLINGTON, Texas — A moment of silence was held before France-Spain in the World Cup semifinals Tuesday, July 14, for the 10th anniversary of the Bastille Day terror attack in France in 2016.
The second-deadliest attack in the country's history killed 86 people and injured 458 others in Nice, France. The act was claimed by the Islamic State.

All 26 players from each roster gathered at midfield to honor the victims of the attack just minutes before the game, which will send the winner to the World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, against the winner of Argentina-England.
The moment of silence was requested by France President Emmanuel Macron.
"Before the France-Spain match, a minute of silence will be observed in homage to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016," Macron wrote on X. "Thank you to the President of FIFA for responding to the request of France and all mobilized French people.
"We will never forget."
France, ranked No. 3 in the official FIFA Men's World Rankings, is looking for its second World Cup championship win since the terror attack, last winning the title in 2018 while finishing runner-up to Argentina in 2022.
