SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The high school basketball semifinals are set for Region 3-AAA after matchups on Tuesday.
Both the boys and girls of Liberty County moved on with dominant wins in the quarterfinals. The Panther boys beat Jenkins, 59-42, and the girls cruised past Calvary Day with an 80-18 triumph.
The boys and girls of Long County also both advanced to the semifinals. The boys beat Islands at home, 68-52.
And after an incredible turnaround season, Groves girls basketball fell to Beach, 65-47, denying them the opportunity to play in the state tournament. The Beach girls will not be alone after the Beach boys defeated Windsor Forest, 65-47.
The Calvary Day boys used a dominant first half to get past Groves, 62-41.
Johnson and Long County played arguably the best game of the night. With the game tied at 47 with 25 seconds left, Zae’Riah Buckner was left wide open.
Johnson had a chance on the other end to score. Their first shot was off the mark, but they were fouled on the second attempt with 1.3 ticks remaining. Johnson missed both free throws as they fell, 49-47.
Jenkins girls rolled past Windsor Forest, 69-32.
The semifinals will be on Friday. On the girls’ side, Liberty County will face Long County in the first matchup at 6:30 p.m. The second match is Beach and Jenkins happens at 3:30 p.m.
On the boys’ side, Long County faces off against Beach at 8 p.m. in the first semifinal. The second semifinal will see Calvary Day and Liberty County at 5 p.m.
All semifinal and championship round matches will take place at Long County High School.
