Portsmouth 69, Gallia Academy 31 (GBKB)

On a day that honored Portsmouth seniors Sienna Allen and KK Mays as part of Senior Night festivities, the Portsmouth Trojans’ girls basketball program made quick work of the Gallia Academy Blue Devils’ girls basketball program in a 69-31 victory for Portsmouth Monday evening at Portsmouth High School.

Portsmouth celebrated the occasion in style by placing four individuals in double-figures, with Allen heading the charge by scoring 13 of her 20 points in the opening half of competition. The senior increased her Portsmouth girls basketball program record point total to 1,610 after breaking the mark against Rock Hill on Saturday.

Bry Shannon scored 10 of her 14 tallies in the second half while Hayven Carter added in eight of her 14 notches in the final pair of stanzas. Keke Woods scored nine of her 13 points in the first half as Portsmouth dominated the proceedings, leading 21-4 after the opening quarter, taking a 37-13 halftime lead and scoring no less than 16 points in any frame en route to the win.

Salem Allen scored five points while KK Mays chipped in three for the Lady Trojans, who improved to 15-2 on the season and 11-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Clay 41, Notre Dame 40 (GBKB)

In a critical SOC I contest that decided second place in the SOC I conference standings, the Clay Panthers’ girls basketball program was able to claim a 41-40 win over the Notre Dame Titans’ girls basketball program Monday evening in a contest that was played at Clay High School in Rosemount.

Ava Demorest led Clay with a big scoring night, nabbing a game-high 16 points while canning four triples from beyond the arc. Sophia Craft, Clay’s lone senior, finished with 12 points and four rebounds while Clay junior guard Emma Emnett finished with eight points, eight assists and three steals.

Maddie Penix (three points, 10 rebounds, two assists) and Mia Lunsford (two points, five rebounds, four steals) finished off the Clay win.

Notre Dame was led by Kennedy Lyon’s 11 points while Alayla Soard (eight points), Jaysa Bryant (seven points) and Audrey Bach (four points) also contributed to the scoring tally. Emma Kingrey, Madi Phillips and Kailee Ogier all finished with two tallies.

Green 78, Eastern 52 (GBKB)

Behind a monstrous triple-double by Abbie Knapp that included 37 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks as well as a 23-point, 17-rebound outing from Laney Strickland, the Green Bobcats’ girls basketball program was able to claim a 76-52 win over the Eastern Eagles’ girls basketball program Monday evening in a nonconference contest that was held at Green High School as part of Senior Night festivities, which honored both Ava Abrams as well as Olivia Blevins, on Monday.

Knapp, who came within three assists of posting a quadruple-double, nabbed her 37 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocks and seven assists while going 12-of-19 from the floor. Strickland’s 23 points and 17 rebounds, along with three assists, came with the sophomore shooting 9-of-15 from the field.

Elizabeth McBee tallied 12 points, six rebounds and two assists for Green while Addison Blizzard added in five notches and Blevins one for the Lady ‘Cats in the win.

Saturday, Jan. 31

Portsmouth 66, Rock Hill 11 (GBKB)

Saturday’s Ohio Valley Conference contest between the Portsmouth Trojans’ and Rock Hill Redwomen basketball programs was all about Sienna Allen, as the senior’s three-point field goal in the fourth quarter of Portsmouth’s 66-11 win over Rock Hill officially put Allen in standalone territory, with her game-high 20 points lifting the Lady Trojans to a 55-point win over the Redwomen Saturday afternoon in Rock Hill.

Allen scored 11 of her 18 points in the opening half to draw herself within single digits of the record before scoring five of her seven second half tallies in the fourth quarter including the record-breaking trey.

Keke Woods added in 10 of her 18 points in the final pair of stanzas while Hayven Carter scored 10 of her 16 points over the final two quarters as well to join Allen in double-figures. KK Mays’ six first half points, Bry Shannon’s five tallies and three points from Sky Mays rounded out the winning cause for Portsmouth.

West 66, Minford 42 (BBKB)

Behind nine different scorers, the West Senators’ boys basketball program was able to score its ninth victory of the 2025-26 season with a 66-42 victory over the Minford Falcons’ boys basketball program in a SOC III contest that was held in West Portsmouth.

West enjoyed terrific first and third quarter frames as the Senators jumped out to a 23-9 opening quarter advantage, and, after ultimately taking a 35-23 halftime lead, outscored the Falcons 18-9 en route to taking a 52-32 lead after three quarters of action.

Will Kegley and Logan McIntire again enjoyed strong efforts in leading the Senators with 16 points each, while Corbin Miller and Christian Quirasco each added in eight tallies and Braxton Kammer six.

Braden Adkins and Owen Richards each notched four points while Westyn Ratcliff and Bryson Journey nabbed a fourth-quarter bucket in the win.

Minford was led by Wyatt Dyer’s 14 points — 10 in the opening half — while Colt Donahoe and Ashton Reeder dropped in seven points each. Colby Mullins and Curtis Glenn (five points each) and Tate Johnson (four tallies) rounded out the scoring.

Green 53, Federal Hocking 51 (BBKB, OT)

Behind another fantastic scoring barrage from Green senior forward Jon Knapp, the Green Bobcats’ boys basketball program was able to grab a key nonconference victory over Federal Hocking on the road Saturday evening as the Bobcats defeated the Lancers, 53-51, in overtime.

Knapp, who tallied 34 of Green’s 53 points, scored 18 points on his own in a 22-point second quarter that saw the Bobcats take a 35-17 halftime lead. The senior scored the lone bucket in overtime as Green moved to 9-7 on the year with the win.

Brennan Renison (six points, four in fourth quarter), Uriah Satterfield (five points), Riddick Jenkins (four points), and Gabe Blevins and Noah McMackin (two points each) rounded out the winning cause for the Bobcats.

Friday, Jan. 23

Green 70, Clay 54 (BBKB)

In a SOC I contest that was held at Green High School in Franklin Furnace, the Green Bobcats’ boys basketball program nabbed a 16-point win over the Clay Panthers’ boys basketball program, notching a 70-54 triumph.

Jon Knapp was a standout once again for Green as the senior scored 21 of his 34 points in the opening half of play to lead the Bobcats. Knapp hit all four of his threes in the first 16 minutes of action.

Riddick Jenkins scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half to join Knapp in double-figures, while Gabe Blevins notched eight points, Brennan Renison seven and Uriah Satterfield six for Green.

Clay was led by a terrific second half performance from Evan Rider, who scored 18 of his 21 tallies in the final pair of stanzas. Corey Williams and Noah Woods each finished with 12 points apiece for Clay.
