Claremore needed a spark Thursday night at Legendary Legion Field, and Dan Harrington delivered in a big way.

Harrington launched a towering three-run home run to right field in the fourth inning, breaking the game wide open and propelling the Zebras to a 9-3 nondistrict victory over Grove.

Claremore (25-8) set the tone early by manufacturing two runs in the bottom of the first. Curtis Waters, who went 3-for-3 with a walk and three stolen bases, scored on a steal of home before Harrington grounded out to plate another.

Waters later helped ignite the offense again in the second by drawing a walk that set up another pair of runs, giving the Zebras a 4-0 lead.

On the mound, Saxton Pickup kept the Ridgerunners (15-14) off balance with a dominant performance, striking out seven batters over five innings while not allowing a single hit. Although Grove pushed across three runs on errors and sacrifices, only one ball left the infield cleanly against Pickup.

Ryder Garrison came on in relief to close out the win.

After the Ridgerunners trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth, Claremore slammed the door in the bottom half.

Marcos Sallee reached on an error and scored when Jax Van Valkenburg crushed an RBI triple to center field. Van Valkenburg then scored on a wild pitch to cap the Zebras' final surge.

Harrington led Claremore at the plate with five RBIs, while Sallee finished with two hits and three stolen bases. The Zebras tallied nine hits overall and showed patience with six walks, constantly pressuring Grove’s defense with aggressive baserunning.

The Ridgerunners were led by Caige Rutherford, who collected their only hit in the seventh inning. Avery Petty and Walker West each drove in a run for Grove, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Claremore’s early offensive burst and steady pitching.
