The relatives and friends of an injured youth baseball player are seeing an outpouring of support from across the region and even other states.
Xavier Taylor, 12, of Maple Shade remains hospitalized after being critically injured in a freak accident on a baseball field on May 26.
But a growing number of fans are rooting for the youth's recovery.
New charge: Feds give new details in Maple Shade double-murder case
A fundraising campaign at mealtrain.com has amassed more than $105,000 for the boy's family, and volunteers have currently pledged to provide food to the Taylors through late June.
Members of the youth association noted the outpouring of support in a statement June 1.
"The outpouring of love, prayers, generosity and support shown by our community has been nothing short of remarkable," they said in a Facebook post. "We are proud to be part of a league that comes together when one of our own needs us most."
The association also noted its "difficult decision" to cancel the season for its Major division "out of respect for the players, coaches and families."
But it said younger players in the T-ball, Rookie and Minor division would still compete.
"Our focus remains on supporting the Taylor family while also providing an opportunity for our players to return to the game they love. More importantly, the game Xavier loves," the post stated.
Association members also canceled their June 12 closing ceremonies and "at this time" has postponed its all-star activities and hitting contests.
Those decisions were made "after speaking with the Taylor family and having thoughtful discussions among our board and coaching staff," the statement said.
Xavier reportedly suffered cardiac arrest after being accidentally hit in the neck by a ball thrown by a teammate during warm-ups. He was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he remains.
The association's Facebook page shows a range of actions in support of Xavier, with numerous phots of the boy in his blue Royals uniform. These included the use of blue lights and the placement of bats outside front doors.
Multiple photos showed players from other leagues crossing their arms, baseball bats and even rows of batting helmets to make an "X" for Xavier.
"Even though we don't know you, our whole team is rooting for you," stated a post from the Oklahoma Mudcats.
Added a team in Kent Island, Maryland: "Stay strong."
Closer to home, members of the Millville American Little League in Cumberland shared a message as well.
"As a league, we want to send our hopes and prayers to Xavier's family and friends," they wrote.
"We are all behind you."
