Barcelona have confirmed Fermin Lopez is set to undergo surgery on a fractured metatarsal sustained during Sunday’s 3-1 win over Real Betis in La Liga.
Lopez had to go off at half-time of the match, with reports subsequently revealing he was due to undergo tests on a foot injury.
Barcelona have now issued an update and it’s bad news for the Spain star.
“The first team player Fermín López suffered a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot in the game against Betis. The player will undergo surgery,” the club said in a statement.
Fermin will therefore miss Barcelona’s final game of the season next weekend against Valencia but, perhaps more importantly, also looks to be out of World Cup 2026.

Barcelona haven’t confirmed how much time Lopez will miss, but the injury update suggests he has little chance of being in time as metatarsal fractures usually mean a recovery time of between six and eight weeks
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is set to name his squad for the tournament next Monday. La Roja’s first game is against Cape Verde on June 15th.
Get well soon, Fermin Lopez.
