Barcelona had planned a closed doors friendly against Preston North End of the English Championship in the final day of their training camp in England on Monday, but the match is now off.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Preston would only be able to field an under-21 squad due to several injuries in the first team and Hansi Flick’s staff decided the competition wouldn’t be strong enough to test his squad, therefore the group will have a normal training session on Monday.
The cancellation also affects Barça’s travel plans, according to the report: the friendly would end in the evening with the squad then traveling back to Catalonia late on Monday, with an arrival expected in the early hours of Tuesday.
With the change of plans the Blaugrana will return home as soon as the training session ends in the afternoon, arriving home still on Monday night before the squad go back to training at their usual base in the Catalan capital on Wednesday as they begin preparations for the weekend’s three-way tournament against Udinese and Nottingham Forest in Italy.
