Lamine Yamal added another record to his growing collection at World Cup 2026 after featuring in Spain’s 3-0 win over Austria on Thursday.

The Barcelona teenager started the win that has sent Spain into the last 16 of the tournament and a tie against either Croatia or Portugal.

Yamal has now been on the winning side in 10 matches at major tournaments, becoming the youngest European player to do so and taking the record off Kylian Mbappe.

18 – Lamine Yamal is the youngest European player in history to end on the winning side in 10 matches at major tournaments, aged 18 years and 354 days.

He is five years younger than the previous record holder (Kylian Mbappé – 23 years and 355 days).

It’s not the only landmark that Yamal hit on Thursday at the World Cup. He featured alongside Barcelona team-mate Cubarsi, meaning the two players are the first teenagers to start a World Cup game together since 1958.

2 – Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are the first pair of teenagers to start a FIFA World Cup knockout match for a team for 68 years.

Pelé and Altafini in 1958 for Brazil against Wales in the quarter-final were the last to do so.
