Barcelona’s Jules Kounde suffers injury ahead of start of World Cup 2026

Barcelona and France star Jules Kounde has suffered a muscle injury ahead of the start of World Cup 2026.

The defender asked to be taken off at half-time of France’s friendly win over Northern Ireland this week due to the problem, as reported by L’Equipe.

It’s not thought that the injury is too serious which is good news for Kounde and France ahead of their World Cup opener.

Les Bleus kick off their campaign on Tuesday against Senegal and it’s hoped currently that Kounde will still be available for the match.

Didier Deschamps’ side are one of the favorites for victory in the USA, Mexico and Canada this summer and will also face Iraq and Norway in the group phase.

France have warmed up for the start of the tournament with games against Ivory Coast and Northern Ireland. Les Bleus were beaten 2-1 The Elephants but then won 3-1 against Northern Ireland last time out.

Kounde heads into the tournament after readily admitting he was under-par for Barca last season. There’s been speculation he could leave the club in the summer but he’s insisted he wants to stay
