Banana Ball is set to return to Hartford this weekend, as Savannah Bananas opponents the Party Animals and Indianapolis Clowns will put on a show at Dunkin’ Park. Here’s all the info you need to know for a three-day festival of baseball and fun.
Teams: Indianapolis Clowns face off vs. the Party Animals in a three-game series Thursday-Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at Dunkin’ Park.
Parking: Lots and pricing for a Yard Goats game will be in place.
When you should arrive: To get the full experience, plan on arriving in area by midafternoon. Trumbull Street alongside the ballpark will be closed all three days for the block parties beginning at 3 p.m.
Meet and greet: Get into the park early, for the meet-and-greet with players. It’s recommended you bring Sharpie pens for autographs. Players roam through the stands to make videos and take pictures. The pregame show each night begins at 6:30 p.m. There is also usually another meet-and-greet period after the game.
What to expect: The Indianapolis Clowns are named for a Negro Leagues barnstorming troupe which entertained fans in the 1930s and ’40s. Hank Aaron is among their famous alums. Jackie Bradley Jr., the former Red Sox outfielder, is with the modern day Clowns and, along with Clark Gilmore of Redding, presents a history/tribute to the original Clowns. There is a “Hammerin’ Hank” contest where a youngster can hit a home run during the pregame festivities. … All the usual tricks and treats associated with the flagship Savanna Banana team will be on display. Mark Smith of East Haven is a designated runner for the Party Animals, and spends much of his night entertaining on the sidelines.
