It was quite an up-and-down home series for the Baltimore Orioles against the New York Yankees. But the last-place American League East Orioles managed to do just enough to beat the Yankees 5-4 on Wednesday night.

Ryan Mountcastle and Ramón Urías hit home runs for Baltimore, helping the Orioles put together a four-run second inning.

The Orioles bullpen did some solid work in keeping the New York hitters off-stride. Six Baltimore relievers were called into duty by Orioles manager Brandon Hyde, with Bryan Baker (2-0) picking up the victory in relief.

Félix Bautista earned his fifth save, but there were some nervous moments as he faced Trent Grisham with two outs in the ninth. Why the nerves? Aaron Judge, who had three hits in the game, was in the on-deck circle if Grisham reached base. Thankfully, Bautista struck out Grisham to end any hopes of a comeback for New York.

Ryan Mountcastle goes deep to snap skid

Mountcastle's two-run home run in the fourth snapped an 0-for-18 skid at the plate. Urias connected for a solo homer one out later and Adley Rutschman also added an RBI single to wrap up the four-run outburst.

Judge slammed a two-run home run in the first inning. He added two singles against the Orioles, giving him a monster .427 batting average for April. Judge is once again in contention for another American League MVP title. Paul Goldschmidt also homered against Baltimore.

Orioles' Kjerstad, Yankees' Reyes in heated argument

These two old-school AL rivals also had a bit of a dust-up. Baltimore's Heston Kjerstad stole second baseman as Yankees second baseman Pablo Reyes leapt to catch the throw.

He came down near Kjerstad's head and neck. Kjerstad and Reyes started yelling at one another, bringing Orioles and Yankees players from the dugouts and bullpens onto the field. Order was quickly restored, though, and the umpires did not throw anyone out.

Yankees starter Carlos Carrasco (2-2) gave up four runs and eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. That's probably not the kind of start Yankees manager Aaron Boone was looking to get from Carrasco. Still, Baltimore pitching did a good job of keeping the Yankees on their heels.

The Orioles and Yankees have Thursday off. Baltimore starts a weekend series on Friday night at Camden Yards against the Kansas City Royals with Dean Kremer (2-4) getting the start.
