It is fair to say that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, like most of us, wasn't expecting a receiver to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
So you can imagine his surprise when he saw the franchise turn the card in for Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka.
Adding Egbuka to a receiving room that already houses Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan, that is now some quartet that Baker has at his disposal.
General manager Jason Licht had the pleasure of telling Mayfield about the Buccaneers' pick, and detailed how his quarterback felt about seeing Egbuka's name pop up.
“I don't think he was anticipating getting any new toys for his offense,” Licht said on Mag Dog Radio. "I send him a text before we turned the card in, I said you're going to like this one. I immediately got an Aww expletive word that meant he was very happy."

It is no wonder Mayfield is happy. He has weapons coming out of his ears.
The Buccaneers' offense was dynamic last season, and that was without Godwin and Egbuka. Now, we add them both in, and suddenly it has the potential to be one of the better units in football.
Plus, the run game with Bucky Irving will be a key point of emphasis for Josh Grizzard, and Egbuka can even be valuable there, given his willingness to do the dirty work for his team.
Baker was surprised at the Egbuka selection, and so were we given the defensive needs that had been talked about in almost every mock draft.
But you can never have enough weapons, and Mayfield gets another as the offense gets supercharged ahead of the 2025 season.
