Ayo Dosunmu made an impact with the Minnesota Timberwolves right away when he was traded to the Twin Cities from the Chicago Bulls at the deadline last season, averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 24 games, nine of which he started, and now that he has a new five-year, $112 million extension with Minnesota, he'll be in a good position to keep making an impact for a long time.
Dosunmu's style of play as an electric guard who plays with a lot of pace is perfectly suited for the kind of offense that the Timberwolves like to play and he most impressed with his efficiency, shooting 52.1% from the field and 41.4% from three while coming off the bench and that kind of spark was exactly what the Timberwolves needed.
Coming to Minnesota was a welcome change of scenery for Dosunmu, even if he shifted form a starting role in Chicago to a bench role in Minnesota, as he was all of a sudden brought on to a playoff contending team with a roster of young players that Dosunmu clearly clicked with right away.

As evidenced by his willingness to sign a five-year extension, Doscunmu was happy with his brief stint in Minnesota and he affirmed his dedication to the Timberwolves in a recent video posted by the Timberwolves on YouTube.
This is always where I wanted to be at. I knew once I got traded here that this was home for me and they welcomed me. The fans welcomed me, the coaching staff welcomed me and my teammates welcomed me. So I always knew that Minnesota was the place I wanted to be at," Dosunmu said (via HoopsHype).

Dosunmu did become a fast fan favorite due to both the way that he contributed on the court right away and with his personality. The Timberwolves' fanbase is one of the most passionate in the NBA and for Dosunmu to click so quickly, especially with his performance during the playoffs, including a 43-point explosion against the Denver Nuggets during the first round, Dosunmu played his way directly in the hearts of Minnesota fans.
Looking ahead to next season, Dosunmu should have a bigger role and at the moment he's projected to be a starter again, barring any other additions that the Timberwolves could make, and with Dosunmu locked in for the long haul, the addition of LaMelo Ball and the every-rising talent of Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves should have some very exciting basketball on the horizon.
