Popovic played for the Socceroos at the 2006 World Cup and became coach in 2024. He has won 10 of his 18 matches in charge, drawing four and losing four.

Australia qualified convincingly for a seventh World Cup, where apart from Turkey they will face co-hosts United States and Paraguay in the group stage.

"Tony is a world-class coach, and he has proven his ability to deliver results while developing talent at the same time," Football Australia CEO Martin Kugeler said.

Popovic said: "It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the Socceroos, and it is a role that I thoroughly enjoy and one I have never taken for granted.
