Augusta University has a new leader of its athletic department.
Brent McMillian is the new athletic director for the Jaguars, AU President Russell Keen announced Monday, May 11.
He's the fourth AD in program history and succeeds Melissa Brocato, who is AU's head softball coach and assistant AD for internal affairs. She was serving as the acting AD after Ryan Erlacher resigned in December of 2025. His hire is the result of a national search, according to the university.
“His vision aligns seamlessly with our goals for Jaguar Athletics: to champion student-athlete wellbeing, strengthen our competitive success, deepen community engagement, and build a vibrant, spirited campus culture,” Keen said in a release from the university. “His experience, combined with his personal connection to Augusta University, positions him to hit the ground running in a meaningful way.”
He brings local ties to the area as a graduate of Greenbrier High School in Evans. He began his undergraduate studies at Augusta before graduating from the University of Tennessee. He was previously the senior associate athletic director for external engagement and revenue generation at Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. Before that, he was an assistant athletic director at University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
McMillian begins his role in an official capacity starting June 8.
