Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze has not had a winning season yet, but he has proven to be a reliable recruiter.

Freeze has secured top-10 recruiting classes for 2024 and 2025, and is looking to add to his 2026 class. On3's Hayes Fawcett reported Saturday that Auburn was a finalist for 2026 running back Jae Lamar.

The Miami Hurricanes, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes were also named finalists.

Lamar is a native of Moultrie, Georgia, and attends Colquitt County High School. He is listed at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds.

Auburn is fresh off a 5-7 season under Freeze in 2024.

Lamar is the No. 110 overall prospect and No. 9 running back in the On3 Industry Rankings. He is a four-star prospect in the 2026 class.

Auburn currently has five commits from the 2026 class. Lamar would join four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, four-star receiver Devin Carter, four-star receiver Denairius Gray, four-star linebacker Shadarius Toodle and four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett if he picks the Tigers.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Georgia the best chance of landing Lamar, at 81.2%. Auburn (6.1%) is in second, followed by Miami (4.4%), Florida State (2.2%), the North Carolina Tar Heels (2.2%), Clemson (<1%) and Ohio State (<1%).

Lamar has visited all of his top six schools. He has visited Auburn three times, with his last visit on March 29. Lamar has scheduled an official visit with the Tigers for May 16.

Auburn begins the third year of the Freeze era on Aug. 30 against the Baylor Bears.
