The Atlanta Braves were defeated by a final score of 8-1 by the New York Mets on Sunday. It was certainly a challenging game for the Braves, as they simply had no answers for their National League East rival. Starting pitcher Bryce Elder had an especially forgettable performance.

The right-handed hurler allowed six earned runs across four innings of work. He also surrendered 10 hits and two home runs in what was a disastrous outing. Atlanta's bullpen only surrendered two more runs following his departure, but the Braves' lineup was unable to find success overall against the Mets.

Elder now holds a 3.15 ERA across his 15 starts so far during the 2026 campaign. He has been impressive for the most part, but Sunday's performance was far from ideal to say the least.

Elder's six earned runs allowed represents his worst mark of the season. He previously did allow six runs in a game in late May, but only five of those were earned. Elder has allowed less than three earned runs in all of his other starts this year.

He is still having a good season, but Elder will want to bounce back as soon as possible. He will want to avoid going into a multi-start slump following his effort against the Mets.

Braves Lose to Mets on Sunday

Atlanta played one of its most forgettable games of the season on Sunday. The offense recorded just four total hits and the one aforementioned run. Mets starter Freddy Peralta allowed one earned run across five innings and New York's bullpen shut out the Mets the rest of the way.

Despite the outcome of the contest, the Braves are still having a much better season without question. New York is just 32-39 and in last place in the National League East standings, while Atlanta leads the division with a 46-25 overall record. The Braves still have the best record in baseball despite dropping their three-game series against the Mets 2-1.

Atlanta has enjoyed a strong year and the ball club will surely bounce back sooner rather than later. The Braves' next series will be played during the upcoming week against the San Francisco Giants, with the first contest scheduled for Tuesday night.

The first game of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:15 PM EST in Atlanta as the Braves look to get back into the win column as soon as possible.
