One international prospect who has never played a snap of college football is a rising target for several NFL franchises – and it's possible he could be the next long-term development project for any number of teams across the NFL.
According to NFL analyst Ryan Fowler, Nigerian defensive tackle Uar Bernard has seen legitimate interest in arranging a visit from six different franchises, including the 49ers, Chiefs, Commanders, Cowboys, Eagles, and Vikings. This comes after Bernard has already scheduled visits with the Broncos and Colts.
Bernard had never played American football just three years ago, and was discovered as a basketball player by the NFL International Player Pathway (IPP) program. Without college experience, he was not on many people's radar ahead of the draft, but that changed with a massive effort at the recent HBCU Showcase this offseason, where he wowed scouts and went viral for his impressive measurements and numbers.
He recorded a 39-inch vertical jump, a 4.63-second 40-yard dash, and a 10-foot-10-inch broad jump – the latter of which eclipsed any mark posted by a defensive tackle at this year's NFL Scouting Combine. And despite his lack of experience, his physical attributes have some projecting him as a potential Day 3 pick in the draft.
