Spring sports are winding down in Arizona, and there’s plenty of activity, including college sports and a new season for the Phoenix Mercury, Phoenix Rising FC and Arizona Rattlers. Here are updates on news and events happening around Arizona sports:

Sun Devils baseball comes back to stop Houston

Arizona State baseball rallied late to take the first game of a three-game series at Houston, 4-3, Thursday night, May 14.

The Sun Devils (35-17) had a 2-0 lead on a Dominic Smaldino RBI single that scored Landon Hairston, and a Dean Toigo sacrifice fly, but Dylan Maxcey's two-run homer in the fifth and Carsten Sabathia's solo shot in the bottom of the seventh gave the Cougars (23-30) a 3-2 advantage.

ASU answered in the eighth with an RBI double from Smaldino, who later scored on an error to give the Sun Devils a 4-3 lead.

Reliever Derek Schaefer closed it out with a perfect, 12-pitch ninth inning.

The teams finish the final regular-season series with games on May 15 and 16.
