Astros predicted to be top destination for $6.7 million All-Star outfielder, would be upgrade from Zach Cole originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Houston Astros weren’t one of the more active teams in the offseason, but they did address a few issues. However, one outstanding issue is getting an upgrade for their outfield.
Fansided’s Zachary Rotman predicts the Astros will find their upgrade in an All-Star who just had a down year in Michael Conforto. Conforto hasn’t been the same since his missed season in 2022, but he still could be better than a couple of their outfielders.

“Michael Conforto was once an All-Star, but he's coming off a dreadful 2025, greatly impacting his market. Despite that down season, Conforto's track record is strong enough to suggest he should be on a Major League roster — and with the Houston Astros in clear need of left-handed hitters (and outfielders in particular), it's hard to find a better fit. In fact, they've reportedly shown interest in Conforto of late,” Rotman wrote.
This past season, Conforto slashed .199/.395/.333/.637 with 20 doubles, 12 home runs, and 36 RBI in 138 games. However, just the season before he slashed .237/.309/.450/.759 with 27 doubles, 20 home runs and 66 RBI.

Conforto’s also only projected to receive a one-year, $6.7 million dollar deal. So, if he doesn’t perform, the Astros could cut him without taking that much of a loss.
Hopefully, the Astros find a better way to upgrade their outfield, but if they can’t, getting Conforto could be their best move.
