The Houston Astros are in the middle of a series against the Boston Red Sox, and they are currently up 2-0 on Boston in this Houston series.

They won game one 8-1 and game two 9-2. A big reason for their blowouts is the presence of Yordan Alvarez, who is off to a scorching start this year with a 1.440 OPS in six games thus far.

But that's far from the most impressive feat for Alvarez. As Underdog MLB shared after Alvarez's home run in game two, the Astros slugger is the best hitter against the Red Sox in MLB history.

The number Underdog MLB is referencing is a ridiculous 1.244 OPS against the Red Sox in the regular season and the postseason combined. And that was before his massive homer during the March 31st game against the Red Sox.

Alvarez has been playing since 2019 and is a three-time All-Star and one of the best lefty power hitters in the sport since his debut. And he's been a dominant hitter against multiple teams in his career as well.

While the number Underdog MLB is using is a regular+postseason number, in only the regular season, Alvarez is a phenomenal hitter against the Red Sox, still.

Across 109 plate appearances in his regular-season career against the Red Sox, Alvarez has 34 hits, 20 runs scored, nine doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBIs, 14 walks, a .382 batting average, and a 1.264 OPS.

That's his best mark against any team in his career with at least 50 plate appearances against, while the Philadelphia Phillies, with a 1.541 OPS against in 33 plate appearances, is the best he's done against any team over any amount of games.

Alvarez has better success against the Red Sox than Babe Ruth did in their respective careers. While this number will likely dip in the subsequent years, and he might no longer hold the record, it's still a wildly impressive feat.
