Q: Ira, would Giannis Antetokounmpo be the best player LeBron James has ever played with? – Jason.
A: Since it’s a weekend, I put into an AI query a list of LeBron James’ best previous teammates plus Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, should LeBron join the Heat. One spit it out in this order: 1. Dwyane Wade, 2. Giannis Antetokounmpo, 3. Anthony Davis, 4. Kyrie Irving, 5. Luka Dončić, 6. Chris Bosh, 7. Kevin Love, 8. Bam Adebayo, with the reasoning at the top for Wade of, “Elite two-way player in his prime. Widely regarded as the third-best shooting guard ever behind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.” The other AI engine had the order of: 1. Giannis Antetokounmpo, 2. Dwyane Wade, 3. Anthony Davis, 4. Luka Doncic, 5. Kyrie Irving, 6. Chris Bosh, 7. Kevin Love, 8. Bam Adebayo, with the reason at the top for Giannis of, “Giannis remains safely at the top. A: Since it no longer appears that Bronny James would be a plus-one, it could come down to whether LeBron James gets his preference or if Pat Riley gets the shooter or big man he says is still needed. Then again, perhaps everyone gets what they want with a Kevin Love reunion.
Q: Tre Donaldson appears to have the same style of game as Kyle Lowry. How much of a shot does he get? – Jay, Ocala.
A: Not sure about that comparison, with Kyle Lowry an elite playmaker and Tre Donaldson more of a combo guard. But it could come down to who plays as the Heat’s fifth guard, in the type of swing-guard role that Dru Smith has held. Based on the Heat’s win-now mode and the trust Erik Spoelstra continually has shown in Dru, I would suspect that Smith would play far more than Tre. Then again, on a two-way contract, Tre would be limited to 50 games on the active roster during the regular season.
