The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 14-12 in their Week 18 regular-season finale. Despite that, the 3-14 Raiders clinched the No. 1 overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft. With the season officially over, the organization will now shift attention to head coach Pete Carroll and his job security after such a disappointing year.

A bright spot on Sunday was that running back Ashton Jeanty set the single-season record for the most scrimmage yards by a rookie in Raiders history. Jeanty concluded his rookie campaign with 1,321 yards from scrimmage. The record was previously held by Josh Jacobs (1,316).

Despite that, Jeanty fell painfully short of reaching 1,000 rushing yards as a rookie. That would have been a worthwhile milestone to add to his first-year resume. Jeanty finished with 975 rushing yards, 25 short of 1,000.

"We were trying," Carroll said about Jeanty failing to reach 1,000 rushing yards. "We were trying. We were on it, man. I thought he had a great year. I think he maximized the opportunities that he had. He came through in so many ways. It shows you not just the toughness, but the endurance, he played all year long. He was running fast at practice this week when sometimes by the last game of the year, guys are not able to. He was just rock solid."

It was an uneven rookie season for Jeanty, but he was largely a victim of a terrible offense. The sixth overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft still managed to make Raiders history despite the first-year inconsistencies. It's a positive outlook for Jeanty's future with the Raiders.
