Kings trade Artest to Houston Rockets

The Kings traded Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets, it was reported by the Houston Chronicle's Web site on Tuesday.

In return, Sacramento will receive former Kings guard Bobby Jackson and a No. 1 draft pick next season.

Artest's trade to Houston will reunite the small forward with former Kings coach Rick Adelman, who Artest played for one-half season after being traded in February of 2005 from the Indiana Pacers.

Before everyone flies off the hinges and says "Why didn't the Suns do XYZ, they could've offered more!". While a Diaw+#1 for Artest is probably better than Bobby Jackson+#1, it sounds like Donte Green is also going to Sacramento, and the Suns don't have a young guy like that to throw in. I'm sure some people will say the Suns should've moved LB+#1 for Artest, but to me, thats way too much.

Great news! Artest will screw up the Rockets as well as he did on the Kings!

The Rockets r crazy! Both YAO and TMac r soft personality, very damn soft! Adelman couldn't set Artest straight 2 seasons ago in Sactown, Morey has no influence in locker room. We'll see them handle Artest well! LOL

By the way, what they r going to do with Battier now? They don't need him any more. There is little minutes left at 3 backup Artest. And they still short of a starting PF and a backup C. Will they consider Diaw a good candidate?

Ironically, Lakers fans and Lakers haters are saying the same thing on this.

Consider Kobe is very tough mind, Phil Jackson did handl Rodman so well, if Ron went to the Lakers, I consider it's a 50-50 chance it might work out.

The the Rockets? 90% chance u will see T-Mac got traded soon.:)

If I remember correctly Artest loved playing for Adelman two seasons ago in Sacramento and was upset when they let him go.

I do agree that it's somewhat duplicating a position they already have, but this gives the Rockets a lot of flexibility. They can play the small ball that Adelman ran while in Sacramento but also have the ability to play big with Yao and have Artest/Battier locking guys down on the wing.

More importantly it gives the Rockets a legitimate 3rd option and will make them a serious threat in the playoffs.

Ya! Ron DID SAY he loved playing for Adelman. But he also SAID he loved to end his career in Sactown not long ago! Actually, he SAID that a lot of times in past 2 years. Is there still human on this planet trust Ron's word?!?

And even if he didn't lie on this one, they 2 together had a first round exit in first season, and then missed the playoff the next. That's why Adelman got fired!

I'm sure on paper and about stats, Artest is a beast, and u can talk a lot about how it might work tactically. But things just don't work that simply. We will see!

I like the trade for the Kings if Donte Green is included. That would essentially be two first round picks and Bobby Jackson for Artest.

Houston is stacked and ready for a run at the title. unfortunately there is about a 10% chance that both yao and mcgrady will be healthy going into the playoffs.

It'll be great for the Rockets.

That is, until Yao and/or McGrady gets injured, like they ALWAYS do.

I like this deal for the Kings. Addition by subtraction. It clears the way for John Salmons who played very well in Artest's absence. The Kings are quietly rebuilding.

They have some nice young talent with Udrih, Martin, Salmons, Garcia, and Greene.

Their frontcourt definitely needs some help with only Shelden Williams and Hawes being young bigs. They really should have got Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, or Al Horford for Bibby. I really don't like Shelden Williams. Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, and SAR(is he still playing) are all past their primes.

The dynamics in Sacramento changed a lot since Artest originally stated he wanted to finish his career as a King. Additionally, Artest felt that he was underpaid for his production level (which he was/still is) and the Kings weren't going to give him the money he was looking for.

And even if he didn't lie on this one, they 2 together had a first round exit in first season, and then missed the playoff the next. That's why Adelman got fired!

To be fair, Artest was traded to the Kings mid-season for Peja. Those guys couldn't be more different and I thought Adelman did a respectable job getting the team into the playoffs. After the playoff exit, Adelman was out and it's been a revolving door of coaches/players in Sacramento ever since.

I'm sure on paper and about stats, Artest is a beast, and u can talk a lot about how it might work tactically. But things just don't work that simply. We will see!

In the summer all I've got to talk about is how I think things look on paper and how I think they will come together during the season. We can get into a more in depth debate on this trade once the season starts.

Great move for the Rockets but definitely surprised. I woulda thought he would of commanded more?

Edit: I guess throwing in Donta Greene makes it a bit fairer, but not much.

There is one thing I'm sure about: This trade definitely puts a lot more pressure on Kerr to improve our roster. Whether it's a trade or FA signing, we need to get better.

In a van...down by the river.
Should of been us but oh well.... the M. Barnes signing was solid.
The backup PG situation is frustrating.
As for the ROCKETS like some others said, if T-Mac & "Yeow!" can stay healthy i like Houston to really clamp down on teams defensively come playoff time. They were already solid on that end. Dangerous team.
