Newcastle United may not have received an official offer for Bruno Guimaraes yet, but Arsenal’s pursuit of the club captain is reportedly continuing behind the scenes through intermediaries rather than direct negotiations.
After weeks of speculation, there has been little visible progress between the two clubs, with business being conducted in the shadows.
That’s what a new report suggests, implying the transfer saga has most definitely not cooled at all, with Arsenal instead maintaining indirect contact while waiting for the right opportunity.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Arsenal has not held fresh direct conversations with Newcastle this week, with no formal approach been made for the Brazil international despite the saga nearing the one-month mark.
More intersting is the fact that Ryder reported discussions have taken place between Guimaraes’ representatives and Arsenal rather than the Newwcastle brass doing any sort of club-to-club negotiations with the Gunners, indicating Arsenal is still attempting to keep the move alive and line it up before submitting an official bid that could effectively seal it.
According to Ryder, the belief inside Newcastle is that Bruno will likely report back to the club’s Benton training ground and spend as much time as this saga lasts with his teammates and coaches training ahead of next season. Manager Eddie Howe doesn’t expect his captain to follow Alexander Isak’s example by refusing to train, an approach Bruno himself didn’t like last summer.
At the same time, Ryder’s report cautions that Arsenal is likely to intensify its pursuit again before the transfer window closes. He also reiterates Newcastle’s position that Guimaraes remains “not for sale,” stating that the club is growing frustrated by repeated reports of specific valuations to the midfielder, insisting the Magpies’ financial position has improved after recent transfer business and they are not going to undersell their captain.
