Arsenal boss Arteta on injured duo, returning World Cup stars and more new signings
Mikel Arteta says Jurrien Timber is “progressing really well” in his recovery from injury.
The Dutch defender was absent again as Arsenal lost 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates.
But asked about his recovery, the Gunners boss said: “I cannot be very precise with that. But Jurrien is progressing really well. He’s on the pitch, he’s doing quite a lot right now. But he’s still weeks away. I cannot tell you how much.”
On Saliba, who is set to be out for a while yet with a back problem, Arteta added: “And William is in rest mode at the moment for two weeks. He had to do almost nothing, don’t aggravate the injury.
“It’s going to take some time to heal. We know that. And as quick as we have more news, we can inform.”

Arsenal also remained without several of their World Cup stars including Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, David Raya and Mikel Merino for their latest game.
But Arteta says they will all join up with the team again this coming week.
“Some of them were back today, already watching the game,” he said. “Some of them, Bukayo was here yesterday, a bit earlier than expected. Which is great to see. I think it’s a really good sign. And tomorrow everybody will be available to start the training programme.”
Bruno Guimaraes was introduced to the Arsenal fans ahead of the game against Dortmund following his £75m move from Newcastle, and Arteta says the club are still hoping to bring in more signings before the window shuts.
“Well, that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said. “If we have the right player in the market to make us much better. We are very looking forward to that.”
