We need to make the tournament this year. It seems like the guys transferring in will be pretty good. Unfortunately 2 of them, Marshall & McKissic, are only here for one year. With it being Jahii & Bachynski's last year as well, we have to do it this year.

We were picked to finish 7th but I think we'll be better than that.

I have my doubts this team will be any better than last year's. I expect the schedule and their active summer will have them out of the gate early. They'll hit a wall right around the conference schedule. Legs and confidence will go quickly.

I had dinner with Herb Sendek the other night. All things considered, he's an impressive person and he will talk ASU basketball anyone and anywhere.

Jermaine Marshall will make us better. Can't wait to see this year's squad.

Jahii Carson leads ASU basketball over UNLV

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu...ii-carson-leads-asu-basketball-over-unlv.html

LAS VEGAS – This is Jahii Carson’s town.

The Arizona State sophomore realized his team was struggling Tuesday night, so he did what he did in spurts last season. He carried the Sun Devils. He took over. He left his mark on Sin City.

In his best collegiate performance, Carson scored a career-high 40 points to lead ASU to an 86-80 non-conference win over UNLV inside an enthusiastic Thomas & Mack Center. The Sun Devils improved to 4-0. The Rebels (2-2) left stunned, and they weren’t alone.

“Amazing,” ASU coach Herb Sendek said. “Utterly amazing.”

“He carried us,” senior guard Jermaine Marshall said.

It continued a run of great performances Carson has had in this city. Last year, ASU played four games – against Arkansas, Creighton, Stanford and UCLA – in Las Vegas. Carson, a 5-foot-10 point guard, averaged 26 points in those contests. Tuesday night he was better.

Carson shot 16 of 25 from the field, making 2 of 3 from 3-point range. Twenty-six points came in the second half, when ASU rallied from a seven-point deficit in front of 12,915 fans. Carson also contributed seven assists, giving him a hand in 57 of ASU’s 86 points.

Sounds like a great performance, too bad it was on a network I don't get! :bang:

Funny, driving into work this morning, I heard ESPN radio say Marquette beat ASU 79-77. I look online, and they had it bassackwards. Great job ASU.

Shouldn't be shocked at this. They can't be bothered to get the name of the University they are broadcasting right half the time, so what is a little messed up score in the long run lol.

ASU basketball no match for No. 20 Creighton

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu...loses-creighton-wooden-legacy-tournament.html

The personality Arizona State displayed in the first three weeks of the season disappeared in the first game of the Wooden Legacy basketball tournament.

Creighton, ranked 20th nationally, dominated early and gave the Sun Devils their first loss, an 88-60 rout Thursday night in front of 1,865 at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym.

"We were outplayed in every facet of the game," said ASU coach Herb Sendek, whose team next plays the College of Charleston Friday at 10 p.m. The Cougars (2-4) lost their first tournament game to San Diego State, 72-52.

Three characteristics that marked the Sun Devils' first six games -- offensive potency, defense against the 3-point shot and the play of 7-foot-2 center Jordan Bachynski -- vanished against the Bluejays (5-0).

After Jermaine Marshall's 3-point shot gave ASU its only lead 38 seconds into the game, the Sun Devils missed nine of their next 12 shots, as Creighton built a 24-9 advantage with 12:08 to play in the first half.

"We didn't follow the game plan of moving the basketball," said ASU guard Jahii Carson, who scored a team-high 15 points. "We knew they were going to load the paint and make it tight for us to drive and penetrate. That was due to our lack of ball movement, our lack of hard cuts and the lack of our inside-out game."

Creighton's Austin Chatman played a major defensive role.

"I thought Austin did a great job on Jahii, once he gave (the ball) up, of really making him work to get it back," Bluejays coach Greg McDermott said. "I think the culmination of that over 40 minutes wears into a guy."

ASU shot just 37.9 percent from the game, 26.9 percent from 3-point range. Before Thanksgiving, the Sun Devils made 40.9 percent of their 3-point shots.

Bachynski, who had recorded double figures in points and rebounds every game this season, played only seven minutes in the first half after committing two early fouls. The senior blocked three shots but finished with just four points and two rebounds in 18 minutes.

Creighton is a bad match up for this ASU squad. I think ASU will be a tourney team, but a team with a superstar PF is ASU weakness, they have no one to counter a guy like McDermitt.

Also, is it just me or does McDermitt have the most punchable face in college hoops? He looks like he's wearing novelty wax lips.

Bad loss to a bad Miami team today. Add in the blowout loss to Creighton and it's been a disappointing weekend for the basketball team.

Jordan Bachynski sets the Pac-12 record record in career blocked shots in a win over Oregon State. In a article dated 2-7-14 by Doug Haller at azcentral, he writes.

Bachynski finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots before fouling out in regulation. The 5,815 on hand at Wells Fargo Arena gave him a standing ovation, then watched senior guard Jermaine Marshall and junior forward Jonathan Gilling make plays in overtime to lift the Sun Devils in a game they had to have.

“It’s huge,” Bachynski said. “I’m honored that I can hold that title, but you also have to think about guys like (former UCLA center) Bill Walton. I’m sure he had more blocked shots than I did, but they didn’t have that stat back then. It’s guys like him, they laid the foundation so I can hold this record.”

I think an NBA team will take a chance on drafting him at least in the second round.

Also very impressed with Marshall who chipped in 25. There were a lot of doubters about him when his transfer to ASU was announced, but I think he has been a great addition.

6 games left and they stand at 17 wins (6 & 4 in conference play)... They have a very, very tough closing 6 games. At a minimum, gotta believe they'll need to go 3 & 3 for any legit shot at tourney bid...

I think we need to at the very least get to 21 wins but probably 22. So 3 & 3 still leaves us with work to do in the conference tournament.

Great game by Bachynski and clutch plays by Marshall toward the end to hang on for the win against Oregon.
