Scottsdale native and former Arizona State captain Josh Doan signed a seven-year, $48.65 million contract extension with the Buffalo Sabres.
The deal will run through the 2032-33 season and is worth $6.95 million per season with $7 million in signing bonuses over the first two seasons, per ESPN. The contract also includes a seven-team no-trade clause when Doan is eligible.
The No. 37 pick of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes is third on the Sabres with career highs of 15 goals and 35 points through 49 games this season. He also leads the NHL with 35 takeaways.
Doan, the son of former Coyotes captain Shane, was set to be a restricted free agent this summer. Doan played 11 games with the Coyotes in 2024, along with several stints with the Tucson Roadrunners up until 2025. He was dealt to the Sabres in the past offseason via a blockbuster trade from the Utah Mammoth.
Doan's mother, Andrea, is serving as the chair to bring the NHL back to Arizona after the Coyotes' exit in 2024.
