In the Arizona Cardinals' 27-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, 21 players participated in at least one of the 67 defensive snaps, and 32 players participated in at least one of the 23 special teams snaps.
Safety Budda Baker was the only defensive players to play every snap. Cornerback Will Johnson missed one and safety Jalen Thompson two. Inside linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. missed 17 snaps because of an injury to his ribs, while cornerback Max Melton missed 41 and is in concussion protocol.
Two defensive players were on the field only for special teams.
How were those snaps divided up? Below are the individual snap counts for every player who got into the game defensively, grouped by position, as well as the snap counts on special teams.
The first number after each name is snaps and the second is the percentage. Players in bold were starters.
In his first NFL game, Nolen exceeded his “pitch” count and played the second-most snaps among the linemen. He had a key sack late in the fourth quarter, while having four tackles (three solo/two for loss), a batted down pass and quarterback hit. Campbell had two sacks for 18 lost yards on the Cowboys’ final possession, while adding two solo tackles for loss and three QB hits.
Their numbers didn’t jump off the page, but Tomlinson and Robinson held their ground and cleared the way for others to make plays.
Sweat filled the stat page with two sacks for 16 yards, two solo tackles for loss, five QB hits and other pressures as well as a pass defensed. Despite leaving early with an injury to his ribs, Wilson tied for the team lead with seven tackles (three solo) and forced a fumble. Davis-Gaither had four tackles (two solo) and a crucial fumble recovery.
Simon, who came down with an illness early in the day, replaced the injured Wilson and wore the green dot to relay the defensive calls. He had two tackles (one solo) and the key strip of Cowboys running back Javonte Williams that Davis-Gaither recovered at the Cardinals' 37-yard line with 4:34 remaining in the game.
Baker had seven tackles (three solo) and a fumble recovery. Burke replaced Melton and had six tackles (five solo), an interception on the Cowboys’ final offensive play of the game and a crucial pass defensed of a fourth-down pass thrown to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Johnson had six tackles (five solo), one forced fumble and a pass defensed. While in the game, Melton had four tackles (three solo).
O’Donnell had a punt blocked by defensive end Sam Williams, who beat a block by Pappoe. It also appeared that O’Donnell stepped up four yards to kick from the spot where he caught the snap. Ryland hit field goals of 34 and 48 yards.
Dortch had a 35-yard kickoff return. Davis-Gaither had three coverage tackles, including two solo.
