Argentina vs. Switzerland free live stream: How to watch World Cup quarterfinal online without cable originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

A Switzerland side chasing its deepest World Cup run in more than seven decades stands in the way of Lionel Messi and defending champions Argentina in the World Cup quarterfinals.

The Swiss reached this point on the strength of their defense, having conceded just three goals all tournament (the third-fewest among the remaining eight teams) even though their nine goals scored rank just eighth among quarterfinalists, with Johan Manzambi (three goals, two assists), Breel Embolo (two goals, two assists) and Ruben Vargas (two goals, one assist) leading the attack.

Argentina, meanwhile, has scored at a tournament-best clip. They're tied with France atop the goals list with 14, powered by Messi's eight as the 39-year-old pursues another Golden Boot. Lautaro Martinez, Lisandro Martinez, Cristian Romero and Enzo Fernandez have each scored once as well.

La Albiceleste have had to grind out their own tense finishes, most recently rallying for three second-half goals in a 3-2 win over Egypt. Switzerland, meanwhile, needed penalties to take down Colombia in the Round of 16.

The head-to-head history strongly favors Argentina, too, as they've won both prior meetings against Switzerland, including a 1-0 result at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Here's everything you need to know to watch the Argentina vs. Switzerland World Cup match, including where to watch on TV or live stream, what time the game starts and more.
