Area track and field athletes seek state berths, others still have a chance

The quest for a state track and field tournament berth began Wednesday night for Division II and IV individuals and relays.

Madison’s Bryce Brock, Sienna Sidoti and Addison Wesley and Geneva’s Dawson Pecore were at the D-II North Royalton Regional site.

At Austintown Fitch, Grand Valley’s Caden Rowland, Nicolas Johnson and Gunner Zetlaw and Sam Steimle and Pymatuning Valley’s Ashton Corson, Maxwell Moores and Stewart Jenick competed in D-IV.

Brock participated in the discus and Pecore the pole vault on the boys side, while Sidoti and Wesley competed in the high jump and shot put, respectively.

Wesley notched seventh place at 37’6.50”. The top five qualified for state.

Brock took 10th in the discus at 154’9”, while Sidoti posted 12th at 4’10”.

For the Mustangs, Rowland was in the long jump, Johnson and Zetlaw pole vault and Steimle 3200-meter run.

Steimle ran a 10:00.72 for seventh place. The top five advanced to the state tournament.

Johnson was 10th in the pole vault 9’0”.

Rowland finished 11th in the long jump with a 19.01. The top five advanced to the state tournament.

Corson and Moores went in the pole vault and Jenick in the discus.

Jenick placed 14th with a 133’2” mark. The top five qualified for state.

In the running prelims, PV’s William Baugher finished second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 40.58 to advance to the regional, and 10th in the 110 hurdles at 16.48.

On Friday, Wesley is slated to compete in the discus in D-II.

Steimle is scheduled to run the 1600, and PV’s Cali Corson compete in the pole vault in D-IV.

Conneaut, Edgewood, Jefferson and the Geneva girls team in D-III at Fitch and the GV girls squad and Saint John D-V at Cuyahoga Heights are scheduled to compete today and Saturday.

Edgewood’s Paul Siler and Nathan Cameron, in the discus, are scheduled to compete today. Siler, in the shot put, and Garret Tracy are slated to compete the 1600 Saturday.

For the Spartans’ boys team, Carrick Dobran, in the pole vault, and Ethan VanNorman, 3200 run, are scheduled to compete today.

On the girls side for Conneaut, Sophia Fiala is the high jump final today, while Madison Teppo and Caitie Cline will be in the pole vault final Saturday.

The running prelims for Anna Ring in the 300 hurdles; Macey McBride, 400; Ring, Raymie Fill, Teppo and McBride, 4x200 relay, and Amanda DeBonis, Teppo, Ring and McBride, 4x400 relay, are scheduled for today.

Jefferson’s Abby Feick will be in the shot put finals today.

For the Falcons boys team, the 4x800 relay team of Luke Sly, Cody Weber, Preston Hitchcock and Josh Piccirillo and Weber in the 3200 are running the final today.

The 4x200 relay team of Paxton Fritzche, Drake Smith, Mitch Lundi and Chad Larson will run the semifinal today.

On Saturday, Sly is slated to run the 1600.

In addition, Gabrielle Talley, in the 200; Willow Wagner, 100 hurdles and the 4x100 relay team of Wagner, Leilani Shank, Amia Tucholski and Talley, are all scheduled to run prelims today.

Geneva’s Ella Haeseler and Isabel Stocker are both scheduled to compete in two regional events.

Haeseler in the shot put, and Stocker, high jump, are competing today. On Saturday, Haeseler is in the discus and Stocker, long jump.

For GV, the 4x200 relay team of Rylee Rogers, Riley Rowland, Brooke Tolla and Lily is scheduled to run the preliminary today.

Kylee Portzer, in the pole vault, and Jocelyn Cozad and Tolla, long jump, are slated to compete Saturday.

Saint John’s Marlee Beacom is slated to run the 3200 today and 800 Saturday. Both are finals.

Kelley will run the 400 prelims today. The final is Saturday for those who advance.
