There was a brief moment right before the Super Bowl when it got out that the Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby was in the hunt to team up with Mike Vrabel.

Crosby's name was tied to a trade to the New England Patriots for a time after that, but the move would've broken the bank. Now, things are a little different.

Initially, Crosby was set to join the Baltimore Ravens during free agency. The trade fell apart after Crosby failed his physical. Since then, it seems that he will be a Raider in 2026, but there has been a lot of chatter about him being moved midseason or even shortly after "cut down day," when the Raiders need to lock in a 53-man roster.

Trading Crosby frees up about $30 million in cap space for the Raiders. So, a financial need exists for the team as they rebuild. However, the Raiders would take a $5.3 million dead cap hit from prorated bonuses for the new season. The Patriots need an advantage at the pass rush, and who better than one of the best in the game? Even if it's just a temporary solution.

The Patriots have the fifth-most available cap space in the NFL at the moment and could sweeten a deal if need be.

In free agency, the Patriots lost edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson to the Washington Commanders. In 2025, Chaisson had 10.5 sacks in both the regular and postseason.

Currently, they are in a dilemma with their second-round draft pick, Gabe Jacas. The rookie edge rusher is in a contractual standoff due to undisclosed injuries and a knee procedure that happened during the offseason.

It's a topic that is always up for debate; Crosby is widely regarded as the best at the position, hence why if the Raiders plan to move him or not is such a hot topic. Crosby is highly regarded for his ability to pressure some of the most elite quarterbacks in the game, thanks to his unmatched motor in the trenches.

Something the Patriots would love to have.
