AP Top 25: UNC men stay at #18 in newest poll

Last week was the second week of the 2025-26 college basketball season. By this point, pretty much every team has played three or four games, and a lot of them have played at least one notable game. The one for the UNC men came last week, where they knocked off Kansas. The women couldn’t quite match that against a higher ranked UCLA team, but they still appear to be in decent shape going forward.

That being said, let’s check in on the UNC teams and the rest of the country as we take a look at the newest AP Top 25 polls.

Where is UNC?

Carolina won a pair of games against lower conference competition last week, on the back of their win over Kansas. While the victory over the Jayhawks moved them up a bit, last week’s victories just kept them where they were in the newest poll.

Biggest Winners

Louisville picked up a massive win over Kentucky last week, moving them up six spots and into the top 10 at #6. While that was the most notable move, they did actually tie Illinois and Gonzaga for the biggest jump.

Biggest Losers

Texas Tech and UCLA tie for the biggest drops of the week, as they both fell four spots following losses to Illinois and Arizona respectively.

Where is UNC?

The Tar Heels played them tight for a while, but eventually fell to #3 UCLA by 18. As a result, Carolina fell a couple places down to #14 this week.

Biggest Winners

Michigan not only beat previously #18 Notre Dame last week, but absolutely blew them out to the tune of 39 points. The Wolverines were already ranked, but as a result, they vaulted up eight spots and now sit at #6.

Biggest Losers

Notre Dame fell six places as a result of that loss, but they tied with NC State for the biggest fall. The Wolfpack are now 2-2, but their two losses did come to two good teams in USC and TCU.
