Any word on Holliday?

Speculation from a Green Bay reporter is that Holliday will either sign with the Cardinals or sign a 1 year contract with Green Bay in hopes of having a good year to get a big payday as an unrestricted free agent next year. That was more speculation than reporting on his part in my opinion. I'm not sure if Holliday would sign a low offer with Green Bay after the injuries he had last year which lost him money. He could lose more money if he went back to Green Bay and had another injury plagued season. Antonio Freeman tried something similar once when he didn't sign a contract extension and had a big year and hit the jackpot because of it. It looks like that is what Martay Jenkins is trying to do with the low offer he signed with the Falcons and he thinks he'll hit the jackpot next year after possibly having a big year with Vick. But considering Holliday's injuries, I'm not sure if he would do it or not. The Cardinals still have a very good chance of getting Holliday.
since defensive end was one of the highest need positions and it was a pretty weak crop available in free agency (and to some extent in the draft)..cannot imagine a better situation for vonnie..If the packers do keep KGB and give him a huge long term deal..I think he will play alot more...so even if holliday is healthy it may be hard for him to put up huge #'s...

I have a question---With the Chiefs only $3.4M under the cap, how can they possibly match the Cards offer? Don't they have to have most of that for the rookie pool? They've already reworked contracts just to get to that level.

Chiefs fan here. By and large I think it is safe to say that the Chiefs won't match the Cards offer. Not that they can't, they won't. They'll make an offer to Holliday that is reasonable, given his injury history. As for the the $3.4M under the cap...that is plenty of room to sign Holliday. If they give him a $4M signing bonus on a 7 year deal, and the first year salary is $600K, then his cap hit is around $1.2M.
If the issue is the most money, the Chiefs won't be a player (that's not their MO). If the issue is good environment with a well respected coach and a legitimate shot at the playoffs, the Chiefs will be a contender.

What I read about Martay was that he signed there because he didn't want to take a lowball multiyear contract that paid him like a 3rd or 4th wr, but he would be starting. He went on and said that he didn't want to come back and be angry.
So rather than be a distraction and a cancer (or at least the media or fans perceiving him as one), he took a shot at the money with vick throwing to him, and where he wouldn't be disappointed. I didn't want him to go, but if he was going to feel butt hurt, I like how he handled it. I would not like to see Martay of 2003 the Lassiter of 2002. In a weird sense, he did us a favor. Although we may miss his talents.

Doesn't he make the final decision? He has offers and he is choosing to wait. So, it is only going as fast as he wants it to. And if he is calling the shots then how can he say that he didn't think things would be going at the present pace.
What I hear is that he is surprised that there is not more interest and the money is not there. I also think he is hoping someone will offer anything close to our offer so he can take it.

Since when was KC a contender...Last I checked they we're pretty sad also!!!!! I agree Holliday is an upgrade over what what we have but to give the guy 4$mil annually is insane..He had all of 6 sacks last year . 5 of which came in 1 game after losing a loved one. Remember Buster Dougals knocked out Tyson after the death of his mother??? We certainly don't want this person to experience some type of emotional trauma on a weekly basis just to get some production on Sundays.. not to be a jerk either

No one can match the money the Cardinals are offering. Does anyone think Vonnie is waiting to make a decision until after the June 1st cuts, just in case some other team frees up the cap space to make any sort of offer like the Cardinals are?
I understand that he is exhausting all his options before taking the money here, but if no other team in the league is willing (or able) to offer up such a fat contract, why should the Cardinals?
Couldn't the Cardinals basically double any other team's offer, and still make off like a bandit? Wouldn't that be less than what the Cardinals are offering him now?
I know Holliday is an improvement over Wakefield, and would serve this defense well for the dozen or so games that we could be counted on playing (refering to his injury bug). But I say lowball him! The Cardinals need to keep their offer high enough above any of the other teams interested in his services, but to keep their offer to him so high is lunacy!
Seeing how as Vonnie really has no options for the kind of money he wanted when he refused the Packers huge extention offer last year, it's time to make him **** or get off the pot. If he beleives he's so valuable, make him a 1 year offer at $3-4 million to play here. Let him prove himself to be dependable and good enough to deserve the kind of money he really wants!

There's a piece in today's EVT quoting the Milwaukee Journal as saying that Holliday essentially is returning to his pre-KC rap that the Cards offered the most money but he questions "their commitment to winning" and is willing to wait for a better offer.
