I previously posted this under NBA news:

I like some of the new NBA anti-tanking proposals.

By Shams Charania. Feb 19, 2026, 05:12 PM ET, ESPN:
  • First-round draft picks can be protected only for top-four or top-14-plus selections
  • Lottery odds freeze at the trade deadline or a later date
  • No longer allowing a team to pick in the top four in consecutive years and/or after consecutive bottom-three finishes
  • Teams can't pick in the top four the year after making the conference finals
  • Lottery odds allocated based on two-year records
  • Lottery extended to include all play-in teams
  • Flatten odds for all lottery teams

They should make the lottery odds tier based. All the teams that won under say 25 games are one tier with equal odds, then 25 to 30 wins are another tier, then 31 to missed the playoffs are another tier.

I was thinking something similar, except maybe you only get a chance to move up in the lottery if you pass a minimum amount of wins, like 30 to 36 wins. Or maybe the bottom four to eight teams qualify at the bottom of the lottery picks with no chance to move up. Make them earn a chance to move up. Fight for that top spot instead of losing for it.
