Anthony Edwards owns late-game errors after narrow Wolves win in Game 1 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Minnesota beat San Antonio 104-102 in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on Monday night. Edwards, the 24-year-old Timberwolves guard and one of the most dynamic players in the league, returned unexpectedly from a bone bruise and hyperextended left knee to score 18 points in 25 minutes.
Edwards identifies mental lapses as the real issue from Game 1's closing stretch
"Ah man, I made so many mistakes at the end of the game. I'm disappointed in myself," he said. "For me, 75% of the game for me is my mind. My mind's got to be where it needs to be and in the last 2 minutes of the game, it wasn't. I gave up 2 offensive rebounds, turned the ball over. Yeah. I'll be better."

Both of those rebounds went to Julian Champagnie, the Spurs' reserve forward. He made them count, giving San Antonio the ball back and a final three-point attempt that could have tied the score.
"We've just got to stay locked in on the game-plan, especially myself man," he told reporters. "I can't give up 2 offensive rebounds to Champagnie. I may not be as athletic as I usually am, but I've got to be able to box out, make the small plays to win the big time games."
Anthony Edwards was very critical of himself after Game 1 of Timberwolves-Spurs:

Edwards returned weeks earlier than doctors anticipated. He played through real pain and competed as hard as anyone in the building. But the physical limitation shows up in the margins.
Game 2 is Wednesday, and the correction he's demanding of himself privately will help more than any adjustment the coaching staff draws up.
