Angels make decision on bullpen arm following rough outing originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the bigger fixtures for the MLB’s rivalry weekend is the Freeway Series, between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels, with the name deriving from the ease of access to both stadiums using the iconic Interstate 5.
The second match in the series would see the Dodgers pummel their crosstown rivals, 15-2, as Shohei Ohtani brought five runs across the plate, with Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call bringing in multiple runs of their own.
However, these offensive performances have to come at the hands of an opposing pitcher, with the Angels’ Alek Manoah being one of those players. The 28-year-old would allow eight earned runs and three walks across 1.1 innings on the mound. It was the first lackluster performance from Manoah all season, given that he hadn’t allowed a run in six innings of work with the Angels leading up to Saturday night’s match.
The Angels make some moves
#Angels transactions:
•Reinstated RHP Grayson Rodriguez from injured list
•Optioned RHP Alek Manoah to Triple-A Salt Lake following last night's game

But it appears that the Angels’ front office has seen enough, as the 28-year-old has been sent down to the organization’s Triple-A affiliate, the Salt Lake Bees. The move comes at the same time as Grayson Rodriguez’s reinstatement from the Angels’ injury list, having missed time due to a mixture of arm issues during spring training.
As reported by MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, Rodriguez is slated to start for the Angels for the final match of the Freeway Series.
First pitch between the Angels and Dodgers on Sunday afternoon is slated for 4:07 p.m. EST.
