Angel City FC defender Savy King nominated for Best Comeback Athlete at the 2026 ESPY Awards

Today, it was announced that Angel City FC defender Savy King has been nominated for 2026 ESPY Awards’ Best Comeback Athlete.

After making a inspirational return to play in 2026, King has continued to advocate for heart health and CPR awareness after surviving a life-threatening cardiac event in May 2025 – including open heart surgery.

In 2025, Savy King collapsed on the field due to a heart condition. Today, she makes her return to the pitch.

She founded her nonprofit, Savy King of Hearts and partnered with the American Heart Association – making the NWSL the first American professional sports league to train all players and staff in CPR.

King continues to inspire on the pitch with ACFC and off the pitch with all her incredible work.
