The Boston Celtics find themselves in the unusual position of being 29th in the NBA in terms of 3-point efficiency after years of being one of the best ball clubs in the NBA from beyond the arc.Why are the Celtics shooting the 3-ball so poorly to start the 2025-26 NBA regular season?
That has been one of if not the biggest concerns so far this season, with both Derrick White and Payton Pritchard struggling from deep early in the current campaign despite being responsible for about a third of Boston's 3-point attempts so far this season. Speaking to the media ahead of Boston's 105-103 loss to the Utah Jazz this past Monday (Nov. 3) afternoon, Celtics guard Anfernee Simons shared his thoughts on his team's early struggles from deep.
"When it comes to the 3-pointers, I think we're just missing," explained Simons. "We've got a lot of capable shooters and great shooters that have made plenty of 3s before, and they just haven't been falling right now. We're just going to continue to keep shooting them ... I think all the great shooters, we've got to continue to shoot the ball, and eventually it's going to come."
As to what he and the rest of Boston's snipers can do when the 3-ball isn't falling, Simons said that it "depends on what the game is giving you. You miss a couple 3s, you want to make the next one, make sure it's a good quality shot or try to get to the free throw line, see the ball go in."
"But if ... you're getting quality looks at a 3, I think you should just keep shooting," said the Longwood, Florida native.

"But sometimes ... you're getting some good wide open 3s, and you have just got to take them, keep taking them. And so it's just a read in the game, I feel like. Obviously, you want to have a confidence to keep shooting those 3s and understand at the same time ... if you can get an easy basket, that works out as well and get into the paint."
