It's been fun for some, a relief for others and, of course, the heartbreak of a season ending for half the teams involved.

All that has happened since Tuesday in boys high school basketball sectionals around Indiana and now it's big-boy basketball the rest of the month, starting with sectional semifinals Friday.

Or, as they say at Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South and Northview (among others), opening night.

At least two of those are among the potential state champions in action Friday, while at least three more teams with the same goal will be taking their second steps: Parke Heritage, probably at the top of the relieved list; Bloomfield, unsatisfied with its play in a one-sided win; and Linton, which launched its own version of epic fury in dismantling its first opponent.

Speaking of Greene County (and who doesn't this time of year), there's the Jake Rose situation, of which I was unaware until Tuesday and Wednesday.

You may remember Jake as the sophomore from Linton who came off the bench to provide instant offense at the First Financial Classic. Now, a little over two months later, he's the sophomore from Bloomfield who comes off the bench to provide instant offense.

And, chemistry being what it is, it might be one of those deals that works out well for both teams.

Without Rose, the Miners were a juggernaut against Eastern Greene. His absence probably means a few more shots for senior point guard Jackson Miller, but that worked out pretty well Tuesday.

Coach Nate O'Neall wasn't ready to call his Bloomfield Cardinals a juggernaut after Wednesday's win, but that doesn't mean they can't be one. If some of the other Cardinals are OK with a few less minutes, Rose is a weapon.

So we'll see.

One more Greene County question. Is it good news or bad news that Eastern's entire roster is made up of underclassmen? That means coach Jamie Hudson can have an entire winning team returning for another year, a bunch of kids who work hard and can really shoot the basketball. A bunch of kids a coach has to love.

And who, once again, might be the smallest team in the state, and I also saw North Knox, North Central and Dugger the past few days.

And by the way, if this rain had been sectional snow, could we ever dig out?

Here's Friday night:

Class 4A Sectional 13 at Martinsville — Bloomington North vs. Terre Haute North, followed by Terre Haute South vs. Bloomington South

Class 3A Sectional 27 at Speedway — Cascade vs. Edgewood, followed by Northview vs. Indianapolis Washington

Class 2A Sectional 41 at Greencastle — North Putnam vs. South Putnam, followed by South Vermillion vs. Parke Heritage

Class 2A Sectional 47 at North Knox — South Knox vs. Linton, followed by Sullivan vs. West Vigo

Class A Sectional 53 at Fountain Central — Lafayette Central Catholic vs. Covington, followed by North Vermillion vs. Riverton Parke

Class A Sectional 61 at White River Valley — Cloverdale vs. Shakamak, followed by Bloomfield vs. Clay City
