Analyst shuts down Rams-Dream Team comparisons over Myles Garrett originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns sent Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday for pass rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. The reaction was immediate across every platform.
Nightcap host Shannon Sharpe pushed back directly against any suggestion that the Rams are assembling another version of the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles, the team that signed Nnamdi Asomugha, brought in Vince Young and others, got called a Dream Team by Young himself, and went 8-8.
"This is not the Philadelphia Eagles, where they go out and get all these guys that everybody's talking about," Sharpe said on the show. "That is not what this is. We're talking proven commodities."
Matthew Stafford is coming off an NFL MVP season. Puka Nacua is leading the league in receptions. Davante Adams is leading the league in touchdown receptions. Kyron Williams is rushing for over 1,100 yards. And now, Garrett: "So this is not forced," he said.
What Sharpe said about Garrett specifically
He talks about Garrett's defensive profile and his ability to function in any scheme a coordinator designs.
"He's not a system guy. Myles Garrett is your damn system," Sharpe said. "If you played him in the 3-4, he could stand up and rush. You can play him at the 5; you could play him with a 7 technique. You could play him about a 9 technique. You can play him in short 9 or wide 9. It doesn't matter. He is the preeminent defensive player in all of football. Whoever your favorite defensive player is, he's not better than Myles Garrett."

Garrett recorded 23 sacks in 2025, the most in a single NFL season in history, and was named first-team All-Pro for the fifth time in six seasons.
The Eagles Dream Team comparison that Sharpe dismissed lasted just one season. The difference, as he pointed out, is that every player he named in that Rams locker room has already shown what they are at the NFL level.
