As NFL franchises prepare to report to training camp, front offices across the league are quietly identifying the missing pieces required for a true championship push. For the Los Angeles Rams, that missing piece could come from a highly familiar former division rival.
In a list of bold predictions for the 2026 NFL training camp cycle, Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon posits that the Rams will make a splash by signing veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
The logic behind the move is rooted in a stark reality facing the Rams' current offensive structure. Beyond superstars Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, Matthew Stafford's options are limited. Yes, L.A. used tight ends effectively, but no other wide receiver on the roster caught more than 20 passes or logged a single touchdown during the entire 2025 campaign.
Gagnon argues that general manager Les Snead needs to find immediate insurance for Nacua and Adams to prevent the offense from becoming entirely predictable. While massive, other veteran names like Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs remain available on the open market, Samuel represents a far cleaner operational fit. Samuel also offers significantly fewer off-field distractions while bringing a physical, multi-dimensional skill set that perfectly aligns with modern offensive philosophies.
The Rams are intimately aware of what Samuel brings to a football field. Over his dynamic career, mainly in the NFC West, the 30-year-old weapon has built a reputation as one of the league's premium weapons. He has accumulated 6,737 total yards (5,519 receiving and 1,218 rushing) and 48 total touchdowns (27 receiving, 21 rushing). By inserting a weapon of Samuel's caliber into the slot and backfield, Sean McVay could unlock a devastatingly creative hybrid role, solidifying the Rams' offense as one of the most feared units in the NFC heading into 2026.

I think Samuel is an ideal fit as a versatile addition to Sean McVay's creative offense. The Rams saw a lot of Samuel during his six-year run in the NFC West. I wouldn't be shocked if they were to find a way to bring in the 30-year-old former star on a one-year contract.
