And for a few hours, he had more World Cup goals than the GOAT Lionel Messi, who was about to start in his record sixth World Cup. And then? Well, you know what happened. But in case you didn't, Messi scored three times in Argentina's win over Algeria for a hat trick, putting himself right at the top of the all-time leaderboard once again.

That aged like milk. We'll see who ends up at the top of the leaderboard by the end of this tournament, although it feels like Mbappe will be playing in a few more of these to perhaps pass Messi and Miroslav Klose.
