Just like a prayer, she took Amber Glenn there.
Ahead of the Olympic figure skater performing a routine set to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” during the women’s short on Tuesday, the Queen of Pop took a moment to record some words of encouragement and adoration for Glenn.
"I just watched you dance to my song, 'Like A Prayer,' and I have to tell you I was blown away by it," Madonna said in a pre-taped video message to Glenn aired on NBC. “You are an incredible skater. So strong, so beautiful, so brave. I can't imagine that you would not win, so I just want to say good luck. Go get that gold!”
A visibly shocked Glenn got emotional after receiving the personal message.
“I’m literally shaking,” she said after hearing Madonna’s words. She continued, “My queen, thank you so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are beautiful, stunning, amazing and you are an icon, a legend, forever and thank you for supporting athletes in their artistic ventures.” She added, “I hope I can do this song justice.”

Madonna’s message comes amid a string of issues involving music rights for Olympic athletes, per ESPN. Glenn ran into a copyright issue for trying to use the song “The Return” by Seb McKinnon, which was ultimately resolved amicably.
When asked prior to her performance what would happen if Madonna were to not give her rights to the song, she responded, "If I do get a message from Madonna saying she doesn't want me to skate to her music, I'll just be excited to get a message from Madonna,” per ESPN.
Despite the well-wishes from the Material Girl herself, Glenn struggled throughout the women’s short program; during the program, an attempted triple toe loop failed, dropping her score down, per People.
By the time she got off the ice, Glenn was visibly in tears. She ended up placing 13th. Alyssa Liu — who, along with Glenn and Isabeau Levito are the figure skating group known as the “Blade Angels” — commented on Glenn’s performance to reporters after the event, in which Liu placed third as the highest-scoring American skater.
“She’s gone through so much and she works so friggin’ hard, like genuinely, such a hard worker and she’s overcome a lot,” Liu told reporters, per People. “I just want her to be happy. That’s genuinely all I want. And so I’ll be seeing her later, don’t worry guys. We’ll stick together.”
