One of Texas A&M coach Mike Elko's No. 1 goals after being hired just weeks before the conclusion of the 2024 season centered around development, wanting to see at least 10-12 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, which, after two seasons, including leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, was accomplished in April after a record 10 players were selected in the draft.

This offseason, Elko and his staff quickly went to work, adding 17 players from the transfer portal, including former Alabama WR Isaiah Horton and Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka, two examples of veteran additions with bright NFL futures, while the return of starting quarterback Marcel Reed and star WR Mario Craver provides OC Holmon Wiggins with key leadership in his first season as the playcaller.

On defense, Saka will be paired with rising sophomore edge Marco Jones and defensive linemen DJ Hicks and CJ Mims, providing a steady pass-rush presence, while the Aggie secondary, which will be the deepest cornerback-and-safety rotation during Mike Elko's tenure, looks like the predominant strength on the roster.

While we're still over two months away from the 2026 season, it's safe to say that Texas A&M will once again send at least half a dozen players to the 2027 NFL Draft next April, especially with several players pan out the way we expect.

Compared to the other 15 teams in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners, who joined the conference before the 2024 season, bring extensive histories of development, having sent a combined 861 players to the NFL, ranking first and third in SEC history.
