The season may be over, but the Alfred-Almond baseball program is still picking up wins.
Alfred-Almond has been named the recipient of the Allegany County Umpires Association Sportsmanship Award for the 2026 season.
In determining the award winner, each umpire rated each game that they officiated. Five categories were used —Coaches, Players, Spectators, Game Start and Mechanics (keeping dugout areas free from equipment, players, etc.)
Baseball sportsmanship encompasses the unwritten rules and ethical standards of the game, emphasizing respect, fair play, and grace in both victory and defeat. It balances intense competition with mutual respect among opponents, coaches, and officials.

Both Alfred-Almond baseball teams had successful seasons in 2026. The varsity program finished the spring with an 11-6 record. The Eagles won a game in sectionals, a 3-1 victory over Lima Christian, before falling to Fillmore, the eventual Section V champion and Class D state runner-up.
The future looks bright for the program after the modified team posted an undefeated season.
